Quesnel Grant Application To Focus On Seniors

Quesnel City Council has approved an application for funding to develop a couple of projects that focus on seniors.

City Manager Byron Johnson says the request will be for 25 thousand dollars to the New Horizons for Seniors Program…

“Included in the project will be the development of a seniors resource guide, which will include resources for seniors as well as opportunities for seniors to participate in local activities. The project will also include holding a seniors fair.”

Johnson says that will represent an opportunity for all groups aimed at seniors to showcase their services and for local seniors to learn more about these services, activities and opportunities, and opportunities for involvement as volunteers.

These ideas, along with many others, came out of two seniors oriented forums hosted by the City.

And Mayor Bob Simpson says he and seniors groups and Northern Health continue to meet on seniors needs…

“There was agreement at our last meeting to look at a q council for seniors, to bring all of the seniors groups together under one umbrella organization so we can be better coordinated and also to do a specific and explicit housing needs assessment and transportation needs assessment for our seniors.”

He says they are also working on a mental health addictions project with Northern Health.
