crews respond to wildfire near homathko river 220 kilometres southwest of wl

BC Wildfire Service crews are responding to a 14-hectare wildfire burning in the Homathko River-Talayoko Protected Area about 220 kilometres southwest of Williams Lake.

Fire Information Officer at the Cariboo Fire Centre Natasha Broznitsky breaks down the size of the crew and the equipment being used.

“29 firefighters and two helicopters are working on this fire and air tankers have also been used to support the work of ground crews. And the fire is in a remote area and no communities or structures are being threatened at this time.”

Broznitsky says given the extreme remote location of the fire we believe it to be lightning caused however we are expecting crews to confirm that shortly”.

In spite of recent precipitation in parts of the Cariboo Fire Centre, the fire danger rating where the fire is burning is currently high.
