He spent six months living in London, UK, studying journalism and working in the field before returning to focus on building a long-term career. Quesnel’s famous moose is whole again
Bruce the Moose, Quesnel's beloved wooden moose carving outside the Prestige Riverside Lodge, was made whole again on Tuesday, October 21. Bruce's carver, Ryan Cook, and the Prestige Lodge re-attached Bruce's antler that had been broken off in July.
Attendance was up this year in Barkerville
Barkerville saw an increase of 11,000 visitors this year. Reaching just over 34,000 visitors during its main season from the end of May to September.
A new speed limit in section of Barkerville Highway
A new speed limit was implemented along Highway 26 in Quesnel, reducing it from 80 km/h to 70 km/h. The Cariboo Regional District has been lobbying for a reduce speed limit for years due to safety concerns for the Barlow Creek Elementary School zone.
Williams Lake RCMP says new Disclosure Unit has increased community involvement
Williams Lake RCMP Staff Sergeant Brad McKinnon addressed the Williams Lake City Council in a delegation with an update on police activity. Saying the detachment's new Disclosure Unit police were able to create has reduced administrative burdens on police officers enough to have more than 200 more active patrols in the Lake City's downtown core, and more proactive engagement across the community.
Cattle investigation underway in Quesnel
RCMP are investigating two cases of cattle being poached in the Quesnel and Hixon areas. RCMP believe the incidents took place in mid-September.
Man arrested and firearms seized in Lac La Hache
RCMP arrested one man, Terrance Southern, in Lac La Hache, and seized a significant amount of firearms and stolen property on Oct. 20. Police say the stolen property has links to escalted property crimes in the area.

Garbage truck fire gets put out quickly in Quesnel, one in hospital
A garbage truck caught on fire on Larch Avenue off Highway 97 in South Quesnel. The Quesnel Fire Chief says the driver of the truck was taken to the hospital for smoke inhalation, but otherwise is okay.
Williams Lake RCMP arrest wanted man
RCMP arrested a wanted man who was a suspect in a violent break and enter that occurred last week. The man is being held in custody to appear before the court.
BCGEU strike headed to mediation
The B.C. General Employees' Union (BCGEU) and the provincial government have agreed to enter non-binding mediation, expected to begin as soon as possible. Vince Ready and Amanda Rogers are to be the mediators facilitating the process. The BCGEU said in a statement, it's members will still maintain picket lines across the province while mediation proceeds.
Quesnel mourns the loss of one of its prominent citizens
Mary Sjostrom, Director of Electoral Area A for the Cariboo Regional District, passed away suddenly on Tuesday morning. Mary spent decades in public serivce as a City Councillor then the first female Mayor of Quesnel before being the Director for Electoral Area A of the Cariboo Regional District, on top of being a member of countless committee boards across the region.
