Prescribed Burn Within The Thunder Mountain Speedway Area to Begin Today

A prescribed burn will be taking place today (April 12) in the Williams Lake area.

The BC Wildfire Service will be supporting Williams Lake First Nation and the Cariboo Chilcotin Natural Resource District in conducting a three hectare prescribed burn within the area of Thunder Mountain Speedway due to suitable weather conditions.” Fire Information Officer at the Cariboo Fire Centre, Talia Mckay said.

Mckay noted that smoke will be visible from Williams Lake and surrounding communities and to motorists travelling along Highway 20, Dog Creek Road, and Bond Lake Road.

The goal of this prescribed burn is to reduce fuel loading through a low intensity burn and support previously completed fuel management treatments.

BC Wildfire Service said larger scale ignitions in that area will take place when the weather is favourable up until April 26 2024.
