Earth Friendly Holiday Event in Williams Lake Friday and Saturday

Your chance to enjoy the holidays while being environmentally friendly is all part of a two-day event that gets underway in Williams Lake today.

Sue Hemphill with the Scout Island Nature Centre says there is something for everyone to enjoy at the free 5th Annual Earth Friendly Holiday Event.

“People always say why don’t you charge for this and I say no,” she said.

“This is a gift from the groups that sponsor it to our community because we like to show another way to celebrate the holidays besides of buying, buying-it’s sort of to counter to Black Friday.”

Hemphill says they bring in a lot of greens so you can make your own wreath or center displays, and that you can also different kind of suet feeders or bird ornaments for your tree.

“I had one family come in for two years in a row, and the kids made all the Christmas presents they had to for the year because the parents had a rule, you had to make your Christmas presents not buy them.”

The event runs on Friday from 5 until 9 pm at the Central Cariboo Arts and Culture Centre located on 4th Ave N. It will also o on Saturday from 10:30 am until 2:30 pm.
