ICBC and police starting holiday roadchecks this month

A CounterAttack campaign between ICBC and police has launched for the holiday season.

In a release from ICBC, they’re urging drivers to be responsible and to plan a safe ride home if drinking is involved.

Roadchecks in Williams Lake were conducted recently, where a total of 5 drivers were caught driving impaired.

You can find the Williams Lake impaired driving story here.

The release also provided statistics for the Southern Interior, where an average of 25 people are killed and 360 injured in 600 impaired driving related crashes every year.

Throughout the province, an average of 64 people are killed every year due to impaired driving.

Some ways you can plan ahead if you’ve been drinking include having a designated driver, calling a taxi, take transit, or use Operation Red Nose.

For more information on the CounterAttack roadchecks, you can visit ICBC’s website here.
