Enrollment is up this year in both school districts in the Cariboo

Preliminary enrollment numbers have been released for both the Cariboo-Chilcotin School District and the Quesnel School District.

Jennifer Woollends is the Secretary Treasurer in Quesnel.

“We received funding for 2,918 students this year.  That was our Preliminary budget from the Ministry of Education.  Currently our preliminary numbers are tracking that we have about 2,930 students, so it’s about 12 students more than we received funding for so far so that looks good and it’s promising.”

Woollends says they have 1,691 students in elementary schools in Quesnel, and 1,209 in high school.

She says another trend this year is that more students are returning to the classroom.

“We’ve seen a lot of kids return from distance learning programs back into in-person learning at our schools so that’s exciting.  We were funded for about 154 last year and we’re at about 30 this year.”

The Cariboo-Chilcotin School District’s preliminary enrollment numbers indicate that there are 4,663 students this year, which is up about 250 students from last year.

Final enrollment numbers have to be submitted to the Ministry of Education by September 29th.
