Reports of bear activity in the 100 Mile House area have jumped by more than 400% this year.
The numbers are quite striking says Frank Ritcey, the provincial coordinator for Wildsafe BC.
“Forty six in August – and remember that’s compared to two the year before… and in September, seventy-nine calls as opposed to twenty-seven.”
Ritcey says that the early disappearance of natural food sources is a large factor behind the increase in sightings.
He recommends that residents take precautions with their garbage to avoid such encounters moving forward.
