A new phone system at the Operational Communications Centre in Prince George is being rolled out today, prompting some small changes to after-hours 9-1-1 calling across the Cariboo.
The new system is a clear upgrade explains Corporal Clint Lange, with the 100 Mile House detachment, who points out that the previous system treated all after-hours calls as emergency calls:
“What they’re doing is, when someone calls the OCC in Prince George after hours, then there’d be a split between emergency and non-emergency. If it’s a non-emergency, then it gets put into a queue.”
Lange maintains that the new calling split will allow for better, more efficient service to all after-hours callers.
