Redneck Regatta Creates Float for Park Maintenance

The Forest Grove Lions Club played host as the 3rd annual Redneck Regatta took place over the weekend at Ruth Lake.

The Regatta features teams building watercraft out of household recyclables with prizes distributed for best boat and first to sink amongst others.

This year’s regatta was a resounding success according to Lions Club member and former president Ron Lister

It was excellent, excellent, excellent. It was just a whole lot of fun. We made over twenty-two hundred dollars from the Regatta… and we consider ourselves lucky if we come away with three or four hundred bucks.

Lister points to one team in particular that had a big impact on the event’s bottom line

“We had one of the boats that came in raised funds that were almost six hundred dollars. the white trash team. white trash was a pretty fancy boat… didn’t float too well, but it was real fancy.”

The funds raised by the event go towards the continued maintenance and improvement to the park at Ruth Lake.
