Special Prosecutor No More

The Special Prosecutor assigned to assist the RCMP’s investigation into the Ministry of Transportation has resigned just hours after being appointed.

On Thursday the Ministry of Justice announced Greg DelBigio would be providing legal advice to the police while they probe the Highway of Tears email scandal.

However questions quickly emerged about a conflict of interest, as DelBigio is currently working for the defence in another RCMP case being handled by a Special Prosecutor. He is representing a former Liberal Party staffer accused of Elections Act violations.

DelBigio has now withdrawn as Special Prosecutor, citing public concerns and the need to preserve the integrity of the investigation.

The Ministry of Justice has said they will name another Special Prosecutor for the case as soon as it is practicable.
