Firefighting Class in Session in 100 Mile House

Those smelling smoke this afternoon in 100 Mile House can rest at ease knowing that it was under control, and with a purpose in mind.

The fire was set and contained by students from Peter Skene Ogden as part of a firefighting course.

Hunter Peever, current grade twelve student, explains that the burning was an opportunity for the students gain practical experience in what they have been studying.

Also a member of the 100 Mile Fire Rescue, Peever explains the equipment being used to both set and contain the fires

Supervising the activity and providing hands on instruction to the class was John Murray,  a teacher and volunteer firefighter with the 108 Fire Department.

Murray points out that its not all drip torches and fire hoses as the students have to perform in the classroom and through community service to get the opportunity to practice with the equipment.
