Liberal Candidate Speaks Out Against Tory Health Plan

Concerns still abound from politicians and health care professionals alike about the Conservative government’s plans for health care funding.

Steve Powrie, the Liberal candidate for Kamloops-Thompson Cariboo, is concerned that the linkage between healthcare spending and GDP is going to lead to funding gaps as the population of Canada continues to age.

The government allowing the Healthcare Accord to expire and then effectively pulling the plug on the Health Council of Canada is a threat to the universality of health care says Powrie

According to Powrie, the new plan could very well see the development of have and have not provinces in matters of health care.

The candidate is concerned that funding shortfalls could see more situations nation-wide like in 100 Mile House where new programs are curtailed as the individual health authorities are forced to make increasingly brutal decisions with their limited spending.
