Blaze destroys home south of Quesnel

A house, south of Quesnel, was completely destroyed by fire overnight.
Fire Chief Sylvain Gauthier says they were called out to Joy Road just after 10 o’clock and spent the next five hours battling the blaze.
Gauthier says the homeowners were able to get out safe but he says it was too late to save the home.
He says about 75 percent of the structure was already fully involved by the time they arrived.
Gauthier says basically the only thing left standing is part of the rood and the facade of the structure.
He says the rear of the structure is basically gone.
Gauthier says the Kersley Volunteer Fire Department helped out with a water tender.
There were 23 members of the Quesnel Volunteer Fire Department on scene.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
That was the 2nd of two major fires for Quesnel last night.
Fire fighters were also called out to Cariboo Pulp to assist with a fire at the mill that started at around quarter after eight.
Gauthier says in that case the fire was mainly contained within the walls of the structure inside and the on sight fire fighters basically had it under control.
He says they helped to make sure it was fully extinguished.
Gauthier says he believes damage was minimal and the cause of that fire also remains under investigation.
