26 Lightning Caused Wildfires And Counting In The Cariboo Fire Centre

Over the past twenty-four hours, the Cariboo Fire Centre region has had over one thousand lightning strikes, which has resulted in 26 new wildfires.

And with today’s continued high temperature, we could see more dry lightning according to Fire Information Officer, Jessica Mack.

“There is a high potential for some more dry lightning and its going to occur throughout the day and into the evening. So we do expect that more fires will be discovered throughout the day and we do encourage the public that if they do see any fires to call the fire reporting line”.

Mack says one fire is burning about 8 kilometers south of Williams Lake and is estimated at .4 hectares in size.

And as we head into the long weekend Mack reminds the public that campfires are banned as of noon today within the Cariboo Fire Centre region so any fires of any size are prohibited.
