An alleged household chore may have caused a residence in the Quesnel area to catch fire twice in the same day.
The West Fraser Fire Department received the call at around 4 p.m. on Saturday, August 15, to a residence on West Fraser Road.
The fire department’s fire chief, Lance Wilkins, says when they arrived, an outbuilding on the property was fully engulfed in flames.
Emergency Health Services checked the property owner, but they didn’t suffer any injuries, and no one else was hurt.
The Quesnel Fire Department assisted with the call and said the fire was quickly knocked down.
Wilkins said the West Fraser Fire Department was told the fire was allegedly caused by someone using a torch or device to burn away a hornet’s nest on the structure.
Then, a few hours later on Saturday, the fire departments were called to a fire at the same location on West Fraser Road.
Fire Chief Wilkins believes the second fire may have been caused by a still smouldering or hidden hot spot from the first call that rekindled in a section of the building. The fire department put out the second blaze quickly as well.
The fire department said there were no injuries from the second fire as well.
