Felker Wildfire south of Williams Lake approximately 30 hectares in size

BC Wildfire Service (BCWS) personnel are responding to the Felker Wildfire burning on the east side of Chimney Lake Road, approximately 18 kilometres south of Williams Lake.

BCWS said it’s 30 hectares in size and burning at a Rank 3/4, a moderate to vigorous surface fire with torching or passive crown fire.

A response officer and initial attack crew are on scene

On their social media page, BC Wildfire Service said airtankers are laying retardant and water is being dropped by skimmers and helicopters to limit growth and slow the spread of the fire.

This fire is burning in a highly visible area to residences on Chimney and Felker Lakes, Williams Lake and Highway 97.

The City of Williams Lake has activated its Emergency Operations Centre (EOC) at level 1 in response to the Felker wildfire and to support the ongoing emergency response efforts led by the Cariboo Regional District (CRD) and provincial agencies.

At level 1 EOC activation allows the City to monitor the situation more closely, coordinate internal resources as needed and support regional emergency management partners.

At this time, the City said the activation is precautionary and is intended to ensure the City is prepared to respond should circumstances change.
