Off and on showers forecasted for the 98th annual Williams Lake Stampede

You’ll need to pack along more than your stetson to visit the 98th Williams Lake Stampede.

Environment Canada Meteorologist Jennifer Kowl said for the start of the rodeo on Thursday (June 25) it looks like it’s going to be a decent day with a very small chance of showers, nothing too serious with highs up to 28 degrees.

However, Kowl said there is a system coming into the region and it’s going to start generating showers probably overnight on Thursday and through the day on Friday (June 26).

“On Friday there is a good chance that there would be some thunder showers in the afternoon. The system that’s coming through is going to move towards the East but it’s going to wrap back around and give us another little push probably late in the day Saturday (June 27), Saturday night, possibly into Sunday (June 28).”

So there will be an on-off, on-off, of showers then clearing, then more showers and more clearing Kowl added.

“The temperatures are going to be nice and warm Thursday but that system coming in on Friday is going to bring in some cooler air and we’re not expecting it to go above 20 degrees for the rest of the weekend. Lows overnight will be down to 10 or 11 degrees so if you’re going to be out in the evening as well definitely dress for it not to be particularly warm once the sun goes down,” Kowl said.

The Williams Lake Stampede runs this Thursday through Sunday at the Stampede Grounds.
