High school woodshop students presented the Williams Lake RCMP with another tool to add to their tool belt.
Columneetza Secondary School Woodshop Teacher Dave Denman said grade 11 and 12 and some grade 9 students worked together to create nine boxes for police to carry their equipment in their cruisers.
“RCMP reached out to us about the possibility of doing this project. They brought a cruiser to the school, we measured it up and thought we could do something like that. They provided us with the plywood, we cut it all up, painted on their logo, and it was done in about ten weeks.”

Denman said everyone participated in what they called a Community Project.
“Every student participated doing a little bit of cutting, sanding, logo and finishing work. I’m giving them participation marks. Everyone that played a role, the more they did the higher their grade will be.”
Acting Staff Sargeant Brad McKinnon came to the school on Monday (June 15) afternoon and presented the students with hats to show the RCMP’s appreciation for the work they done.
“You guys got us out of a real jam,” Mckinnon told the students, “Police vehicles are essential in how we do our job. These boxes are super important. They look great, you guys did a great job.”
