More than 5 million dollars worth of wildfire risk reduction projects planned in the Cariboo-Chilcotin

Several organizations in the Cariboo/Chilcotin region are benefiting from more than 5.3 million dollars in funding provided by the province to the Forest Enhancement Society of B.C.
There are a total of 16 projects in our region all designed to reduce the risk of wildfire in the region.
Some of the larger projects include $902,900 to Central Chilcotin Rehabilitation for hand treatments in Puntzi, Redstone and Alexis Creek, $450,000 for treatment in Dragon Mountain Park near Quesnel, and $827,600 earmarked for the Three Rivers Community Forest Limited Partnership for Dragon Lake Wildfire Risk Reduction.
That is jointly owned and managed by the City of Quesnel, Nazko First Nation, Lhtako Dene Nation,  Esdilaugh First Nation, and Lhoosk’uz (Loose coose) Dene Nation.
The Nazko First Nation is also getting just over 574 thousand dollars, the Williams Lake First Nation is receiving $477,000 for Slater Mountain Wildfire Risk Reduction, and Chilcotin Plateau Enterprises is getting 400 thousand for a Sheep Creek Hill Wildfire Risk Reduction Project.
The province is committing 20 million dollars in each of the next three years.
Ravi Parmar, Minister of Forests, says “the best wildfire is the one that never starts. The best way to protect communities is to work together to prevent them.”
He adds that “through this investment, we’re investing in wildfire resilience and this means local logs for local mills to create local jobs.”
