There is 1 wildfire currently in the Cariboo Fire Centre following the long weekend

There is good news to report when it comes to wildfires in the Cariboo Fire Centre.

Fire Information Officer Madison Dahl said currently there is one and categorized as being held.

The Cariboo Region has received a reprieve from the above seasonal temperatures that we experienced earlier in the Spring. Most areas in the Region have received precipitation and cooler temperatures however fuel conditions across the Cariboo still reflect a combination of extended drought conditions and below normal winter precipitation,” Dahl said, “It’s important to remember until an area receives an appropriate amount of sustained precipitation those fuels may continue to dry out particularly in some of the lower elevations which could further elevate wildfire risk.”

The Cariboo Fire Centre asks everyone to continue to exercise caution and report any wildfires by calling 1-800-663-55-55 or *5555 on your cell phone.

“As a reminder there are currently Category 2 and 3 open burning prohibitions throughout the entire Cariboo Fire Centre,” Dahl said, “Campfires are still allowed and if you choose to have a campfire please use extreme caution and ensure it is completely extinguished and cold to the touch before you leave it unattended.”
