Sunday railyard incident results in arrest: PG RCMP

The Prince George RCMP say one person is in custody after an incident that occurred just before 10:00 Sunday morning.

The initial report from witnesses advised an unauthorized man was in the railyard near Terminal Boulevard and Industrial Way, who appeared to have a firearm in his possession.

According to police, it was reported the man was acting suspiciously and attempting to enter buildings, vehicles, and trains.

Mounties say the suspect attempted to flee upon police arrival, and officers made manoeuvres to stop the vehicle.

Police say an officer discharged their service pistol at the suspect, but did not strike him. The man was arrested after a brief struggle.

A search of the suspect and his vehicle located a firearm and ammunition.

“The rapid response by police officers was key to this event concluding as it did: with one person in custody and no injuries to the public,” said Cpl. Jennifer Cooper.

The suspect has been identified as 31-year-old Daniel Patrick Finke, and he was remanded in custody until his next court appearance.

The following charges have been approved in the investigation:

  • Pointing a firearm
  • Flight while pursued by a police officer
  • Dangerous operation of a motor vehicle

The matter is now before the courts.
