Interlakes Fire Hall hosts annual open house

The Interlakes community will have a chance to dunk their fire chief this weekend.

The Interlakes Volunteer Fire Department is putting on its annual Fire Hall Open House for the community.

Fire Chief, Poul Beer, says other emergency response services, such as BC Ambulance, Search and Rescue, and the Emergency Support Services in the community, will be showing up as well.

“It’s really good for us to get out there and see some more of the public,” says Beer. “We also use this opportunity to encourage people to come out, meet the firefighters, meet the medical first responders, the people that are going to be helping you out when you are in need.”

There will be games for the community and families to enjoy, with some raffles, a 50/50 draw, and chicken poop bingo. All proceeds will be going to the Interlakes Fire Department Society.

“We’ll have live music happening, and we’ll have hose exercises where people can try on our gear and spray some water hoses and see if they’ve got what it takes to manage one,” Beer said. “Then we’ve got a dunk tank to dunk the fire chief. I will be sitting at the tank from 1 o’clock ’til 2 o’clock.”

The Interlakes Fire Hall Open House will start on Saturday, May 16, and run from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. at the Interlakes Community Hall in Lone Butte.
