Quesnel Community Foundation breaks record amount of grant funding awarded non-profits

The Quesnel Community Foundation had yet another record-breaking year for the amount of grant funding given to local non-profits.

The Foundation held its annual banquet and awards night on Wednesday, April 29. It also gave out its community grants to organizations from Quesnel.

Graeme Armstrong, the Foundation’s President, said they awarded $240,000 to 30 community organizations. $40,000 more than last year’s record-breaking year, as well as setting a new record for the amount of grants organizations received, nine more than last year.

“It’s the most exciting night of the year for us, honestly,” says Armstrong. “All the work that goes into the Foundation all year long, it’s the most exciting part when we can distribute those grants every year.”

The grant money the Foundation awards is what has been earned from the Foundation’s endowment fund, which is never touched.

The endowment fund started with $50,000 as a legacy from when Quesnel hosted the 2000 BC Winter Games.

Today, the endowment fund is up to around $6.5 million.
