Fire fighters in Quesnel respond to large wildland fire

The Quesnel Volunteer Fire Department was called out to a large wildland fire early Thursday (April 30) morning.
Fire Chief Ron Richert says they had multiple 9-1-1 calls come in at around 4:30.
“The Quesnel Fire Department was called to the area of Balsalm Road in behind the Wendy’s restaurant in the forested area. We had a large wildland fire, approximately 50 by 50 feet.”
Richert says they were able to quickly extinguish the fire, although they were on scene for about an hour and a half.
No one was hurt and they managed to keep the fire from spreading to any structures in the area.
He says it got to the perimeter of the cell tower but no further.
As for the cause, Richert says there was a small encampment that was in the area.
