Grassland fire almost gets to three residences in Quesnel

The Quesnel Volunteer Fire Department responded to a grassland fire over the weekend that very nearly got to some nearby homes.
Fire Chief Ron Richert says they were called to a fire off Gook Road just before 3 o’clock on Sunday (April 19) afternoon.
“Upon arrival, our duty officer had a large area around Gook Road and Weldon Road area. It was the old Dragon Lake Golf Course years ago.  And we had a large wildland fire that had gotten away. We had multiple crews and were able to contain the fire and stop it from going to any structures or to the forested areas.”
Richert says the fire got to the property lines of three residences and it did get into the tree line a bit.
He says they received multiple calls on the fire.
No one was hurt.
Richert says they responded with four apparatus and a dozen fire fighters.
He says they were on scene for approximately four hours.
