RCMP release details on shooting in Quesnel

The RCMP has released more information on a shooting that left one man in serious condition in Quesnel.

Staff Sergeant Kris Clark says, Quesnel RCMP received a report of a shooting at a residence on the 500-block of Nason Street in Carson Subdivision at around 4:28 p.m.

“A man was reportedly shooting multiple rounds from a firearm within the residence, with some rounds striking a neighbouring residence,” Clark says. “No one else was inside the home, and police established containment of the residence.”

Clark says the North District Emergency Response Team attended the scene and attempted to establish contact with the suspect, but received no response.

“Police made entry into the home and discovered the suspect suffering from a presumed self-inflicted gunshot wound. First responders provided immediate medical aid, and the suspect was transported to the hospital with serious, life-threatening injuries.”

Clark says no one else was injured in the incident, and there is no ongoing risk to the public. The area was cordoned off to support the investigation.

The Independent Investigations Office (IIO) BC has been notified and is investigating police actions in this incident.

As the matter is now under investigation by the IIO, police will not be releasing further information.
