Updating Quesnel’s Cenotaph

A special ceremony will take place at the Cenotaph on Kinchant Street in Quesnel this week.

It will take place at 1-30 tomorrow (Oct 3rd) afternoon.

Elizabeth Hunter explains…

“We are installing three new plaques that will be added to the cenotaph that recognizes the veterans of Canada’s peacekeeping missions, the Gulf War and the War in Afghanistan.”

Hunter says currently the cenotaph only recognizes veterans who served in the First and Second World War and the Korean War.

She says this is sort of bringing things up to date.

Kersley students, with some encouragement from their teacher Sara Guest, were the driving force behind this project.

The students were inspired by Paul and Terry Nichols, who are of course well known now for bringing awareness to the difficulties Canadian soldiers face when transitioning back to civilian life.
