Traffic delays in Farwell Canyon through the next month

Motorists traveling through Farwell Canyon should expect traffic delays for the next month.

Tŝilhqot’in National Government (TNG) will be doing a Rockslope Mitigation Project along the Chilcotin River through the canyon, south of Williams Lake. The project aims to help stabilize and protect a corridor of the Fraser River that is crucial for salmon migration from future rockslides and natural hazards.

The Farwell Canyon Bridge Road will have daily closures for around one hour between 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. from March 16 until April 15.

TNG says there will be an additional hour of closures between 10 a.m. and 12 p.m. from March 16 until March 23.

To avoid disruptions and minimize risks to workers, TNG asks the public to avoid the Farwell Canyon area as much as possible for the duration of the project.

TNG, alongside representatives from the provincial and federal Departments of Fisheries and Oceans, will be conducting slope stabilization work that involves manually scaling the rock sides, as well as manual trim blasting.

TNG says it will provide updates on the project through its social media pages.
