Man Arrested in Evacuated 100 Mile House Zone

A 100 Mile house man was in police custody Tuesday morning after being arrested for being Unlawfully in a Evacuation Zone.

RCMP officers, conducting general duty patrols in the evacuated town of 100 Mile House, were alerted to the male when they observed a light flick on and off in a residence in a Watson Lake Road Subdivision of 105 Mile House.

Officers went to investigate the source of the light and found an insecure door, with a bicycle outside. The 51 year old man, was found hiding in the back yard of the residence and arrested without incident, for Being Unlawfully in an Evacuated Zone and Trespass at night.

Further investigation revealed that the male had been asked to go to the residence by the home owner, to check on, and feed a pet that had been left behind.

“Our officers are working diligently to protect your homes and property while the Evacuation Order is in place. We remind residents that we are here to help and are working with our partners to ensure your community remains safe in your absence. If you require assistance with pets or livestock you have left behind, there are proper procedures to follow to gain temporary access or assistance”, said Corporal Janelle Shoihet, Media Relations Officer for BC.

For policing related issues, contact the police in the jurisdiction you need assistance. Requests for temporary access permits should be directed to the Regional District office in your area. In addition, BCSPCA has community resources in place to support pet/livestock care.
