Fire destroyed Recycling shed at Mountain Spruce Community Park

A recycling shed was lost to fire in the South Cariboo.

Deka Lake Volunteer Fire Department Chief Glen Hiltz said they responded to the incident at the Mountain Spruce Community Park Wednesday morning at 12:30.

“It was a small shed that was fully involved which had already collapsed on itself by the time we arrived. At that point there was some concern because it was tucked in the trees and there was another shed close by but it appeared that the fire did not spread.”

Hiltz said the department deployed two fire lines and were able to clean it up fairly quickly.

“There was no power that went to that shed. They do have power on site but it didn’t go to that shed in particular and it only held refundable recycling so there was nothing in there that would have been flammable. That shed was put up right beside a sea can and it had glass recycling in it and a lot of that had been damaged as well too,” Hilltz said.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

The Deka Lake Volunteer Fire Department was on scene for approximately an hour and a half.
