Young Offender Apprehended as Crews Respond to second grass fire of the night

The Williams Lake Fire Department was busy Wednesday night responding to another rash of grass fires.

Deputy Fire Chief Rob Warnock says were on the scene of a fire near the hospital at 9:25 pm and continued it on to burn off the rest of the grass.

He says that was not the end to their night.

“At about ten after twelve, we had another fire call to Boitanio park again. We had several fires in there and one of our members and a off-duty RCMP officer caught a young offender leaving the area.”

Warnock reminds the public that burning grass within city limits is illegal.

He says most of the time, stuff like this starts small and unfortunately works into bigger things.

He says he will not know until he has some more information to conclude if the youth was behind a string of other grass fires in the area a few weeks ago.
