Pool on Target to Reopen Beginning of May

The Sam Ketcham Pool in Williams Lake remains on target to reopen at the beginning of May.

Laurie Walters is with the working group for the project.

“During this transition shutdown I think it’s really important and people are very understanding towards that realizing that it’s short-term pain for long-term gain. It’s allowing the work to be done at a much quicker pace than having the pool open.”

The transition shut down which was initiated February 6, 2017 was required to facilitate the major mechanical and electrical changes required to open the new lap pool and shut down the original.

Once the transition period is complete, the new lap pool, improved change rooms, fitness centre, hot tub, sauna and steam room will be open for the public.

Walters adds that at the beginning of the project, the working group heard loud and clear that the tiles needed to be changed and that was a priority from the beginning.

She says a new kind of tile is being used that meets all the regulatory requirements for friction coefficients with the grout being the important factor in reducing slipperiness. The floors in the change rooms are also being re-sloped so that they meet grade requirements.

The pool project remains on target for a full opening in fall 2017.
