Kiwanis Park to get a new name

Kiwanis Park in Williams Lake is getting a name change.

Williams Lake Council approved to change the name, at Tuesday’s meeting, from Kiwanis Park to Kiwanis-Rotary Park, reflecting the contributions that both the Williams Lake Kiwanis Club and Williams Lake Daybreak Rotary Club have made to maintain the park.

Mayor Surinderpal Rathor said the proposed change was split into two recommendations: the first to approve the new name, and the second to figure out how the new signage will be purchased.

“We will forward this report to staff and ask them[the clubs] to work together for the signage. So there is no money from the City taxpayers involved.”

A new sign will cost approximately $19,000 to fit current standards.

City Staff was also directed to look for grant opportunities to help the Kiwanis and Rotary Clubs fund the new sign and work needed to implement the sign, and the resources to update mapping, park permitting, and more administrative paperwork.

The recommendations were unanimously approved.

**Updated to include sign pricing and administrative work context**
