The Royal Canadian Legion will be holding Remembrance Day Services throughout the Cariboo tomorrow morning.
Jean Kodiak, an 89-year-old Quesnel resident and long-time volunteer of the Legion, shares her first experience of respecting and remembering those who have served our country when she knitted socks for WWI veterans.
“When I was very young, my mother knit socks for the veterans. While I used to knit down to the long, but I couldn’t turn the heel or do the toes, so she would do that. I felt they were sacrificing their lives. If they hadn’t gone, Canada wouldn’t be what it is today.”
Kodiak, recalls the heartbreaking day when her four brothers left for overseas during WWII.
“I, of course, was crying. It was a funny feeling, but it was what they wanted to do. Sort of a blank feeling, that might be the last time you see them.”
The Royal Canadian Legion in Quesnel will honor all men and women who served in all armed conflicts around the world to protect our freedom at the Cenotaph tomorrow at 10:45 am.
Remembrance Day Services at the Cenotaph in Williams Lake will also be held tomorrow starting at 10:50 am and in 100 Mile at the Community Hall at 10:55.
