Quesnel’s Board of Education has a new Chair

School Trustee Lisa Boudreau is back as Chair of Quesnel’s Board of Education.
Boudreau was acclaimed to the position that she held back in 2023-24 at Wednesday (Nov 19) night’s meeting.
She was Vice Chair this past year.
Boudreau says she is excited to move forward.
“I think my focus will be on strong governance, clear communication, and just a steady, respectful process at our Board table.  I think it’s really important that we create space for all of our voices, even when we’re holding different perspectives.  Good decisions come from thoughtful dialogue and a clear, respectful process and I think it’s really important right now.”
On the stipend issue where Trustees voted in and then rescinded a fairly large increase, Boudreau says it has been paused right now.
“I think our Board, it was a huge learning experience for us, a big learning opportunity.  We definitely made some mistakes and we are really committed to doing better moving forward, so as of right now there is no changes to any stipends and we haven’t even begun to have the conversation yet.”
Boudreau says the next big item on their plate will be a review of the catchment process.
She says she has learned a lot over the past three years.
“I think over the past three years I’ve really learned more and more about the complexity and the importance of the work that we do as Trustees, just getting that deeper understanding of governance and valuing those relationships with our partners, the responsibility that we hold as Trustees, and making decisions that are positively impacting every learner in our Schools District.   I’m excited to move forward, good things ahead.”
Also on Wednesday night, Trustee Honey Affleck was voted in as Vice-Chair.
Former Board Chairs Julie-Anne Runge and Tony Goulet were also nominated.
