Changes have been made to busing for students in Quesnel

Transfer buses have been eliminated in the Quesnel School District.
Secretary Treasurer Jennifer Woollends says transportation was reviewed to align with the changes to the catchment areas with the opening of the new Carson Elementary School…
“When we looked at it and did our bus optimization project, we looked at it and we had the ability to have kids load one bus and get them to their catchment school, and then on to, if they go to QJ or Correlieu or our French Immersion.”
Woollends says before there were some students, depending on where they were trying to get to in the District, that might have had to get on three buses and the majority had to get on two.
She says these changes were made following consultation.
“We definitely talked to a lot of different partner groups, as well as used the consultants to help us with the catchment and transportation projects.”
Woollends says it’s too early to say what impact all of this will have on the budget, although she says they are starting out the year with the same number of buses as this past year.
She reminds people that they need to register for the busses.
“We have a process, you can look on our website where you can fill out a registration form to and from school.   Parents can also fill out a courtesy ride request form if they’re looking for something that is not to and from school.”
