Logging Truck Catches Fire on Garner Road West of Quesnel

A logging truck burst into flames while traveling down Garner Road in West Quesnel.

The West Fraser Volunteer Fire Department (WFVD) was called to a scene of a logging truck that had caught fire in the load of its back trailer.

“Upon arriving, the trailer was three-quarters involved in its load of logs,” Incident Commander Mike Clayton said. “We’re foaming it down, because the fire is [was] embedded deep inside the load, and water’s not penetrating it.

WFVD responded with a trailer and two people of their own and called the Quesnel Volunteer Fire Department for assistance due to a shortage of manpower.

Clayton says the driver of the truck had managed to unhook the truck from the trailer before a worst-case scenario could have happened.

“It could have been a lot worse; the young man is really lucky himself. The second worst thing would have been losing the trailer, and luckily [the fire] didn’t spread to the timber that’s close by along the road.”

The cause of the fire is unknown at this time. The driver is uninjured.
