West Fraser Provides Update On MDF Explosion And Fire

The West Pine MDF plant in Quesnel, the site of an explosion and fire last week, will re-open but not until it’s safe.
The President and CEO of West Fraser provided an update this morning.
Ted Saraphim says it won’t re-open until the company completes it’s investigation, determines what the root cause of what failed inside the MDP forming process equipment, and are confident they have a solution in place to ensure a similar incident can never happen again.
Saraphim says safety is a core value and business priority for West Fraser.
In the meantime, he says that all of their employees will remain fully employed as cleanup and repair activities are commenced and completed.
Saraphim also praised how the employees managed through Wednesday’s (March 9th) traumatic event and the aftermath.
He also thanked the emergency services personnel, particularly the Quesnel Volunteer Fire Department, for how they responded to the fire.
