Cougar Closes Williams Lake Trail

The River Valley Trail between Comer Street and Frizzi Road in Williams Lake has been closed due to cougar activity.

Darrell Ashworth, a Field Supervisor with the Conservation Service in the Lake City, says a city worker who was working down on the trail came across a fresh deer kill and had a bit of an encounter with the cat.

He says it was a joint decision to take this precaution.

Ashworth says the trail will likely remain closed for 4 to 6 days.

He says there are no plans to go after this animal as he says it is just doing what it is supposed to do.

Ashworth says it has actually been a fairly quiet year for cougar sightings although he says there are typically more as we go into spring.
