Two Vehicle Collision Closed Highway 97 Near Campbell Road Over The Weekend

100 Mile House RCMP continue their investigation into a two vehicle collision on Highway 97 near Campbell Road.

Staff Sargeant Brian Lamb said Police, Emergency Health Services and 100 Mile Fire Rescue attended the scene on Saturday.

“Upon arrival a pickup truck was found engulfed in flames and a semi tractor trailer unit was also found to have sustained damage.” Lamb said. “The male driver and lone occupant of the pickup truck was pulled from the vehicle by witnesses and other motorists before the fire consumed the vehicle.”

Lamb said the driver of the pickup sustained injuries that were believed to be serious at the time of the incident and was taken to hospital by EHS for further treatment, the driver of the semi tractor was not injured.

“After speaking with witnesses and conducting a scene investigation, it is believed that the pickup which was travelling south crossed the centre line and struck the north bound semi tractor. Alcohol is believed to be a contributing factor of the collision and RCMP is continuing to investigate,” Lamb said.

Traffic flow in both directions was stopped to allow the fire to be extinguished and the scene cleared of any safety concerns.
