Williams Lake’s Christmas in July Food Drive continues with slight changes

The Salvation Army and Williams Lake Fire Department’s Christmas in July food drive begins today.

Previous years, crews would go door to door in various communities, collecting food donations for the organization.

Community Ministries Director for the Salvation Army, Tamara Robinson says due to circumstances, this year’s food drive will be different.

“Of course, due to the recent events in the City, the Fire Department has been working incredibly hard protecting us.” says Robinson.

“We’re asking those who wish to donate to please bring the donations to our Family Services building at 272 Borland Street. We accept donations Monday to Friday from 9:00am to 3:00pm.”

Robinson says donations can also be dropped off at the thrift store Tuesday to Saturday, from 9:00am to 5:00pm.

The Williams Lake Salvation Army serves over 700 people through the food bank program per month, and serve around 1,800 hot meals through the breakfast and lunch program.

Robinson says they’re in desperate need of canned soup, pork and beans, cereal, pasta, canned vegetables, hamburger helper, stovetop stuffing, jam and Mr. Noodles.

She added the only thing not accepted is home canned goods.
