100 Mile House RCMP will be utilizing a speed watch program alongside Citizens on Patrol.
The program would help in identifying and responding to reported problem areas with aggressive driving has been observed.
Sergeant Brian Lamb says speeds would be recorded and provided to police.
“To date, it has been utilized in areas of the District of 100 Mile, Horse Lake Road, Forest Grove and 108 Mile.” says Lamb.
“While some instances of what would be considered aggressive driving have been reported, it has been noted that the large majority of motoring public have been adhering to the posted speed limits in these areas.”
RCMP receive a large call volume regarding aggressive drivers, and as a result of calls from the public and proactive efforts, an increased number of impaired and prohibited drivers have been removed from the road during the spring and summer months.
Lamb says this isn’t meant to be a replacement for enforcement, but does provide information to police to assess and direct enforcement where necessary.
