Warm up for the 57th annual Quesnel Rodeo set for tonight

The 57th annual Quesnel Rodeo will officially get underway on Friday night in the Gus Cameron Arena at Alex Fraser Park.
Tonight though, there is a barrel racing qualifier for the main show.
Ray Jasper, President of the Quesnel Rodeo Club, says it is free and it will start at 6 o’clock.
He says there are 127 entries.
“We’ll take the top 20 out of that qualifier and move them into the rodeo and they’ll go head to head with the top 15 in the British Columbia Rodeo Association, so there will be about 35 of what should be the best barrel racers in BC.”
Jasper says it is also an American Rodeo Contender Qualifier.
Besides the main shows Friday night at 7 and then Saturday and Sunday afternoon at 1, there are also a pair of slack performances this year, one on Friday at noon and another starting Saturday morning at 8.
The format this year will have each competitor get two runs with the top 10 then qualifying for Championship Sunday.
