A local Williams Lake business experienced a major fire over the weekend.
Assistant Fire Chief Cory Boyd said the Williams Lake Fire Department was dispatched at 11:57 Saturday night to a reported vehicle fire at Markey Mechanical on Mackenzie Avenue South.
Upon arrival, Boyd said the fire had extended into the awnings of the building and penetrated the roof.
“Engine and Ladder crews quickly worked on extinguishing and preventing the fire from spreading to adjacent portions of the building,” Boyd said.
Once the fire was under control, the ladder and a small crew stayed until morning to ensure any hot spots had been dealt with.
The Williams Lake Fire Department responded with two Engines, the Ladder truck, and two Duty pickups and 17 firefighters.
Boyd said the cause of the vehicle fire is undetermined at this time.
