UBC to host a salmon restoration meeting in Williams Lake next week

The University of British Columbia Institute for Oceans and Fisheries is looking for public input on salmon restoration.

They will be hosting a Community Salmon Dialogue in Williams Lake for anyone concerned about the future of Pacific salmon wanting to share their knowledge.

Projects Meeting Planner, Alara Sever talks about what people can expect at the meeting.

“The meeting will have two parts. The first part will be the project lead having a 15-20 minute presentation, and at the end of the presentation, we will have a couple prompts so we can encourage public participation.”

Sever says the presentation portion will cover the purpose, goals, and objectives for the project.

She says they want to get as many local public views and knowledge for salmon recovery as possible to provide summaries to the Province and the UBC community.

From there, UBC will provide a final report to governments, media, and participants in March 2025.

Anyone is able to attend the meeting in the Gibraltar Room at the Cariboo Memorial Complex, on May 8th, from 9:00am to 12:00pm.

More information about the project can be found on UBC’s website here.
