There is a public meeting scheduled for tonight (Tuesday) at the Barlow Creek Hall to go over how to pay for a new water tender for the local fire department.
The meeting will take place between 4 and 7.
John Massier, the Cariboo Regional District Director for Area C, says they will be reviewing two options.
“The two options are to finance over a 10-year period and that’s why we’re going to referendum to reduce the annual impact on taxes for the local taxpayers in the Barlow fire service area. The other option is that we go ahead and increase the taxes significantly more and pay for this truck over a five year period.
Massier says they would also pay less interest however.
He says the estimated cost of the new truck is 650 thousand dollars.
Massier says they won’t be debating over whether or not the truck is needed as the old truck is nearing end of life at 20 years.
Residents will have the final say on how to pay in a referendum scheduled for Saturday, April 27th.
There are also early voting opportunities, one on the 17th and the other on the 22nd.
All voting will take place at the Barlow Creek Hall between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m.
