Iker reacts to Supreme Court ruling

The Supreme Court of Canada says they will hear an appeal by the BC Teachers Federation.

The announcement was made this morning (Thu) and BCTF President, Jim Iker says they will now try and re-store important working conditions that were taken away several years ago.

“We are looking forward to the opportunity to present our arguments to the court and hopefully win back important working conditions for our teachers which we believe were unconstitutionally stripped from our collective agreements.”

The Teachers Federation won in lower courts back in 2002 and 2012 when they argued the provincial government had infringed on teacher’s rights after it legislated class size and composition.

Last April, The BC Court of Appeal sided with the province ruling teacher’s rights were not violated.
