New apartment complex by the Friendship Centre in West Quesnel gets green light

A new apartment building on North Fraser Drive in West Quesnel is finally going ahead.
Tony Goulet, Executive Director of the Quesnel Tillicum Society, says the funding from BC Housing is now in place and they are ready to go out to tender with the project.
“It’s a 34 unit building, 5-storey, very nicely designed and it’s for hopefully for low income and families.  One bedroom, 2 bedroom, some single suites.  It’s a nice building and very exciting for the Friendship Centre to move forward with a housing project.”
Goulet says it will be built in the vacant lot beside the Friendship Centre.
He says they are looking at June for Construction.
Goulet says people are very excited about it.
“It’s tremendous overjoy I guess for individuals.   We already have people coming and saying when can they move in.  I say slow down, slow down, we’re still in the process right.  So I am excited and it’s very, very heartwarming to see that we’re going to actually have 34 units for individuals,”
Goulet says there is a lot of demand for this type of housing.
This project has been a long time coming as Quesnel City Council gave third reading to a zoning amendment for the site back in October of 2021.
That was followed by two 6-month extensions, the latest being in April of last year.
