Wells couple celebrating 25th anniversary on and off the Theatre NorthWest stage

In just under a week, Theatre NorthWest’s third play of the season will debut.

It is called ‘Sexy Laundry,’ it is about a couple who have been married for 25 years who are trying to spice up their love life on a weekend away.

The actors portraying this couple, Julia MacKey and Dirk van Stralen, will celebrate their own 25 year anniversary not long after the show closes.

“We are very different from Alice and Henry,” MacKey said with a laugh. “It is great to be on stage again, we haven’t done a play together since 2003.”

“Alice, romance to her is a big deal. She wants Henry to romance her and surprise her in different ways. I don’t care about that stuff,” she said with a laugh.

“I think it is going to be a really lovely play for couples, or anyone who has been in a relationship for a year, 25, or 50 years.”

The couple lives in Wells where they help manage the Sunset Theatre.

Anna Russell, the show’s director, said the couple has made production very smooth.

“The comfort was there from the beginning,” she explained. “We had to work on the fights more, they are a very nice couple.”

“They bring a great sense of balance and comedic timing. It is completely relatable, everybody will have had these discussions with their partner at some point, or seen these discussions in their family,” Russel said.

She said audiences can expect a relatable comedy with important themes.

“I hope in the end they will feel that they have seen something they can relate to and take away from.”

The play opens on February 15th and runs to March 6th.
